Page Academy students building and testing projects at their work tables

Invention Convention

Our signature Invention Convention transforms the traditional science fair into a showcase where students become inventors, entrepreneurs, and presenters.

Students identify a real problem, design & build a solution, and present what they've made to an audience.

Three stages & one showcase

The convention is a culminating experience that challenges students to identify problems, design solutions, and communicate their discoveries.

Creative problem solving

Students identify real-world challenges and brainstorm innovative solutions through a structured design thinking process.

Prototype and test

Hands-on building, testing, and refinement develop engineering skills and an understanding of scientific method.

Present and communicate

Public presentation builds confidence while students explain their process, their findings, and where the idea could go next.

Arts integration at work

The convention is one of the clearest examples of how Page teaches: learn the science directly, then build and present something with it.

Why it matters

When a student has to build a working model, the science has to hold up, and when they have to explain it to a room of families and faculty, the understanding has to be real.

The convention sits alongside the STEM lab, where students work with 3D printers, design software, and their own tablets, and it connects to the broader arts-integrated approach that runs through every grade at Page.

Invention Convention questions & answers

What is the Invention Convention?
The Invention Convention is Page Academy's take on the science fair. Students identify a problem, design and test a solution, and present their invention and what they learned to families and faculty.
Which grades take part?
Students in the elementary and middle school grades take part.
How is it different from a science fair?
Instead of reporting on an experiment, students invent something. They work through a design thinking process, build and refine a prototype, and present the finished invention like an entrepreneur would.
